Life on Egglectic Acres

Sunrise on Egglectic Acres begins with the first proud crow from our roosters, a sound that signals another day in the heart of our family-run farm. As the light spreads across the lake, the youngest of our crew, some as young as eight, join older siblings and the grown-ups to start the day’s first egg roll in the incubators. Each egg is gently turned by hand, a simple but vital step in bringing new life into the world.

From there, the day flows with the hum of activity. The first stop is the brooders, where tiny chicks, some hatched just that morning, are checked for warmth, comfort, and health. With multiple hatches happening every single day, there’s always new life to greet. We also make rounds to the growing pens and aviaries, offering feed and fresh water to Coturnix quail, peafowl, guinea fowl, and our many variety of chickens. These moments are never rushed; they’re a time for observation, connection, and care.

By midday, fresh eggs are gathered from the nesting boxes and brought in for sorting. In the afternoon, another round of egg rolling in the incubators takes place, keeping the next generation of birds on track for their own hatch days. Chicks and juveniles are checked multiple times throughout the day, their progress carefully monitored by both kids and adults ensuring each bird gets the best start possible.

As the sun dips low, there’s a calm but purposeful flurry of evening tasks. Adolescent birds are encouraged to find their perches, learning the roosting habits that will serve them for life. Feed and water are topped off, gates are secured, and the last egg roll of the day is done. By the time the stars emerge over Lake Secession, the farm settles into its nighttime quiet,  ready to begin again with tomorrow’s first rooster crow.

At Egglectic Acres, this daily cycle is more than work, it’s a shared life. With generations working side by side, we grow not just healthy, happy birds, but a living legacy of care, sustainability, and respect for the land and its creatures.
